New years in Rio

Best spots in the world to celebrate New Years

Seriously though, where did that year go? It feels like we were bringing in 2019 just the other day and it’s already time to start thinking about 2020. If you’re wanting to welcome it with a bang, here’s our list of the best New Year’s spots around the world.

Copacabana Beach, Rio

Rio is renowned for livin’ la vida loca (the crazy life) on any given day, so we can only imagine the New Year’s parties! January is summer in South America so you’ll be able to get amongst the sun and surf while you’re not partying. The famous Copacabana Beach is where you’ll find most of the action, complete with colourful entertainment and impressive fireworks. Join in on the local tradition to wear all white, said to bring good luck for the year ahead (just watch the red wine!)

Hogmanay, Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a real party city, with a laidback yet rucus vibe. One night of celebrations isn’t enough for the Scots, so Hogmanay spans across three days. The Torchlight Processions opens the celebrations with thousands of torchbearers creating a “river of fire”down the Royal Mile. You can watch from the sidelines or get amongst with your own torch.

The famous street party packs a punch with live music, street entertainment and a fireworks display from Edinburgh Castle. You can also buy tickets to Concert in the Gardens, this year featuring Mark Ronson. If you’re not feeling too dusty on 1st January, explore the city with the annual scavenger hunt. Or if you’re really nuts, get amongst the tradition of a New Years dunk in the River Forth.

Falls Festival, Australia

Falls Festival in Lorne is a four day bender of fashionable festival-goers and some of the best alternative music line up, with some big international names for good measure. Just a couple of hours drive from Melbourne, make the most of a few days in the city enjoying good food, cricket and a spot of shopping. 2020 line up sees the likes of Vampire Weekend, Disclosure, Peking Duk and Of Monsters and Men.

Lapland, Sweden

Forget fireworks and man-made light shows, Mother Nature puts on a show with the Northern Lights in Lapland, Sweden. Make the most of the minimal daylight hours with dogLsledding or ice-climbing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. If you’re looking for some nightlife to top it off, stay in charming small town Kiruna.

Rhythm and Alps, Wanaka

You don’t have to travel across oceans for an epic New Year’s. Sister festival of the famous Rhythm and Vines, Rhythm and Alps is set in the stunning Cardrona Valley, between Queenstown and Wanaka. The 2020 festival features the classic Kiwi festival classics Shapeshifter and Ladi6.

Finns Beach Club, Bali

New Year’s Eve party at Finns Beach Club, Canguu, is one helluva way to bring in the new year. Bali’s biggest new years party, get your rave gear ready to party across 4 pools, 9 bars and 5 restaurants. The temperatures are hot, but the acts are even hotter – Camelphat, Duke Dumont and Lost Frequencies.

Ready to book, but your bank account isn’t ready to party? No need to wait until next year. The Lending People can help make it happen! With super fast online loans and fair rates, you’ll be sure to celebrate in style.
